WORK IN PROGRESS:

The Iterative Palimpsest

Each sequence begins with a small collage that could be perceived as ‘unfinished’ that is photographed and/or scanned. This is considered the first state of the sequence. It exists as a unique work, but also in the context of the sequence.

The image is then printed larger than the original; this object becomes the basis for the next state, and is altered with a variety of media. It too exists on its own, becoming the second state of the sequence.

The number of states is yet to be determined, as well as the percentage expansion between states.

The camera is a transformative apparatus within the sequence: it sits inside the process, serving as a hinge between each state. It preserves the image at the moment of its transformation while simultaneously making that image available for further change.

The final image isn't simply an altered version of the first: it is the accumulation of decisions, accidents, reproductions, distortions and interventions that occurred between the first and final states.
